Eddy current Testing (ET) |
|
Eddy current testing (ET) is about electric currents that are produced inside the metallic mass, based on the phenomenon of induction. In the case of existence of discontinuities, the induced currents are disturbed and a receiver (coil) receives the disturbance of the signals.
Eddy Current Testing (ΕΤ) can be applied on various metallic materials, ferromagnetic or not. The disadvantage of the method is that, in high frequerces the penetration depth of the eddy currents is seriously limited. The main advantage is the ability of a quick testing, even above painting.
The method has a very vast variation of applications, while in certain cases (e.g. inspection of tubes) is almost the unique choice. Specific equipment of producing eddy current are required, as well as a variety of probes and special calibration parts. Thus we have a high initial cost, for the purchase of the equipment.
